Ezekiel 36:30 "I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations."

This abundance will come after God gathers back His people, sprinkles clean water upon them, cleanses them from all of their idols, replaces their hearts of stone with ones of flesh, and puts His Spirit in them, so they walk in His statutes. (Ezekiel 36:24-27) All of this will be done to vindicate God's name, which his people have "profaned among the nations" (Ezekiel 36:23).

Notice that it is all God. The Israelites are not getting themselves back from exile, nor are they able to provide themselves with abundance for the future, only God can do that, and He will do it in His time. The only thing the Israelites can do, and have done, on their own is break their special relationship with God through sin, and thus profane His name. When it comes time to vindicate His name, it is God alone who does it.

We may be living through a time a period of "exile from home", right now, so we don't always see God's blessings very clearly. While the Jews were in exile, they didn't either. But He is there, always, asking us to stay true, or become true, to Him in our trials. Then, when the time is right, He will act to vindicate His name through us. The blessings He bestows on His people in that time will be so plentiful, the world will not be able to help but notice. While we wait for the end of famine and coming abundance, though, God continues to bestow blessings in our lives, consolations that help see us through our exile.

It is not for us to question the time God has chosen for us, we are here during these difficult times for a reason. Even when the Church seems to be "suffering the disgrace of famine," we know she is His bride, and He will eventually make the increase of her field abundant. We just have to stay faithful so that when that time comes, he has workers for the field.
