Luke 22:14-20. "When the hour had come," Jesus takes his place at the table with his disciples for the Last Supper. Jesus says to them that he has eagerly desired to eat this Passover with them before he suffers. He drinks from the cup and says that drink or eat again until the Kingdom of God comes. Then he shares the bread and wine as his body and blood saying “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” and “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood."

Jesus is going to his death the next day, he knows it, yet he has eagerly desired to share this meal with his disciples. He is always so totally in the moment! He is not worrying about the future, just accepting God's will for what will come, and appreciating everything that he has in the moment in which he finds himself.

The thing that makes this meal so solemn and special is that it is his last meal with his disciples, and he therefore establishes the Eucharist now. I am sure that was something he was very much looking forward to doing! But if not for his coming passion, there would be no need for this to be his last meal, and no need for him to establish the Eucharist here, so it is the coming tragedy itself makes this meal eagerly anticipated!

I must say that I would not be able to concentrate on the beauty of this moment as thoroughly as Jesus did. I would be so full of worry and anxiety about what was coming.

Jesus, please teach me your patience, your calm, your trust in the Father. It makes all the difference!
