Isaiah 1:3. "The ox knows its owner, and the ass its master's crib, but Israel does not know, my people does not understand."

God has given us so much, and yet we often do not understand that! He made us in His image and likeness. He endowed us with reason and intelligence so that we can come to know Him and love Him, yet we are so often too smart for our own good. Here God laments that the ox and the ass know their masters, but Israel does not know her God! Notice that He uses two rather lowly animals to compare us to - an ox and an ass. Even they, servile creatures without great intelligence, know their masters, but we turn away and rebel.

We are too full of ourseleves; too proud of abilities we only have because God gave them to us. We think we're smarter than God, able to plot our own paths and destinies. We often say, like Lucifer, "I will not serve," and we suffer the consequences, but we don't even realize they are the consequences of our rebellion, we think God's just being mean to us or something.

We really are so blind and deceived, often even dumber than an ox. We are so lucky that God keeps calling us back over and over again; that He loves us so much, He sent his Son to suffer the consequences of our sin and show us the way back to Him. He didn't do any of that for the fallen angels, because they had perfect knowledge and understanding at the moment they came into being. He does it for us because, since the Fall, we are surrounded by this fog, unable to truly see and understand. When we finally do, let us turn back to our God and serve Him with the love He deserves.
