1 Maccabees 6:31-32. The enemy came and camped against Bethzur, and for many days fought and built engines of war, but the Jews kept going forth to burn the war machines and fight valiantly. Then Judas marched his men away from the citadel and encamped opposite the encampment of the king.
Sometimes we have to leave the safety of our citadel in order to properly engage the enemy. I am not sure that I am brave enough to do this, to be honest. Maybe God is telling me to prepare myself. This might have something to do with the "somewhere new" He is preparing for us and that I talked about in my last post, Being Strong and Courageous in God.
We have to leave the safety of our known homes and lives if we are going to get someplace new, just ask the Jews of the Exodus! Sometimes we have to do this even when the enemy surrounds us and is building engines of war to destroy us. We can only sally forth and retreat back so many times, and the enemy knows this.
There is no safety in cowering in a citadel when the siege has no end. Instead, we must go forth, ready for battle. I think God is preparing us for this. I hope I am ready and brave enough when the time comes.
