1 Samuel 2:5 "Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn."

We should never allow ourselves to get complacent. When we are full, we often forget about God. When we have plenty, we can think we don't need Him, coming to believe we've done this all ourselves. We must always remember that we can do nothing without Him. If we don't acknowledge that and use our plenty to help build His kingdom, He will eventually tip the scales in favor of those we have been ignoring (or, worse yet, mistreating).

This can happen in many ways, sometimes by our plenty literally being taken from us, so that we must hire ourselves out for bread; but also sometimes by the emptiness we feel when we have everything but Him, as with the forlorn mother of whom Hannah speaks in her prayer of praise for the gift of her son Samuel.
