Titus 2:1. "But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine."

Paul is advising Titus to teach sound doctrine in Crete after expounding on the many so-called teachers of the faith who are "insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers ... [who] profess to know God, but ... deny him by their deeds". (Titus 1:10, 16). It would be easy to write about how this applies to some of our bishops and priests (and those were who Paul was talking about), but I would rather apply this to myself, and to everyone who is feeling the pull of the "new evangelization" and trying to spread the Word.

We must be so careful not to get caught up in the distractions, arguments, bitterness, and possible heresies that are everywhere in the world and in our Church, and just keep our eyes on Jesus. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. His life and His Church are our guides. If we are tempted (and I often am!) to respond to someone uncharitably, or to write something which we are not certain is true, we must resist those temptations, lest we deny Him by our deeds. Any writings we produce (including comments and Tweets (or are they called “Xs” now?)) must reflect truth and virtue. We can, and should, explore ideas and hash out complexities, but we must never present as doctrine an idea that goes against Christ or His Church's teachings, and we must always strive to act with virtue.

Satan is trying to lure us away, and I have seen him be successful with many "who profess to know God". The devil doesn't care which way he pulls us - to the left or to the right - as long as he gets us to err. We must not let him, or we risk doing more harm than good.
