Jeremiah 47:3 "At the noise of the stamping of the hooves of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, the fathers look not back to their children, so feeble are their hands." This is part of "The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smote Gaza." (Jeremiah 47:1) (I find that interesting, since my last post touched on Gaza as well!)

I saw a part of a TED talk recently in which Scott Galloway, a liberal professor at NYU, was asking "Do we love our children?" and making the case that, from the way society is structured right now, and the things we are so committed to preserving at the expense of future generations, it kind of seems like we don't. I am certain I disagree with Mr. Galloway on many things, but on this I think he is right.

We are selfishly looking to our own needs and wants while destroying our children's ability to thrive; we are miseducating them, teaching them the prevailing narratives of the day, rather than truth and substantive skills that create a stable society; we are throwing away the framework of our great nation in order to "get" our political opponents; we feel it is a woman's right to decide when she wants to have children, and also her right to dispose of them before they are born if nature thwarts her attempted control!

So this verse really speaks to us. When the struggles come, when justice begins, will we look back to our children to help them, or will our hands be too feeble from our self-indulgence to offer them any assistance at all?
