1 Chronicles 26:22-28. A naming of those in charge of the treasuries under David. There are two main men in charge - Zetham and Joel - but then there are many more under them. Shebuel is chief officer of the treasuries, and his son Shelomoth, along with Shelomoth's brothers, are in charge of "all the treasuries of the dedicated gifts which David the king and the heads of the fathers houses, and the officers of the thousands and the hundreds, and the commanders of the army, had dedicated. From spoil won in battles they dedicated gifts for the maintenance of the house of the Lord."
When God's people are being governed rightly, and are acting rightly, and walking in his ways, they prosper. The fact that David's treasuries for the house of the Lord are so large that at least eight men were required to manage them is evidence of both their prosperity and good fortune of Israel under David and the fact that the people were living rightly - they put God first by dedicating gifts to the treasuries. It is an acknowledgment that they knew from whom their prosperity came.
When we live this way, even in our own individual lives, our treasuries are filled as well. I find it so amazing that the more I put God first, the more I give him my quote first fruits, whether it is money, time, morning prayer before my day, whatever, the more blessings he pours into my life, and the more grace I get to carry my burdens.
