John 14:10, 24, 26, 28, 31. "The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works"; "the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me"; "the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things"; "for the Father is greater than I"; "I do as the Father has commanded me".

I was reading chapter 14 of John today and it struck me how chock-full it is of references to the Father - it is practically a primer on what we can understand about Him (I linked to the whole chapter above so you can see for yourself)! The above quotes are just a sampling of the references to the Father, the ones I thought most directly evidenced the fact that Jesus always only said what the Father wanted Him to say.

I have mentioned before that I think God must have been so happy with Moses because Moses could actually hear and talk to God, they could have a real conversation. It was quite a different relationship from the ones that God had with His other prophets. It might not necessarily seem so to us - the prophets did receive the Word of the Lord and pass it on, and often talked back to Him, but God Himself said that His relationship with Moses was different (see Numbers 12:1-8 and Moses Prefigured Jesus). This is one way Moses is a "type" for Jesus. If Moses could converse with God with great understanding, how much more could Jesus, His only Begotten Son?! That is what the quotes for today are getting at. Jesus perfectly understands the Father, He is One with Him, they share the exact same way of thinking. There is nothing lost in translation with Jesus - He speaks only what the Father wants Him to say in the perfect way it is to be said.

We can rely fully on everything Jesus says and know that it comes directly from the Father. We also know that He will only reveal things to us that He wants us to understand and will send the Holy Spirit to help us do that (see John 14: 26). If the Jews came to know God through Moses, how much more do we come to know the Father through the Son? He is truly the Way - no one comes to the Father but through Him (John 14:6). So if we want to know what Dad says, we only need ask our Brother.
