Isaiah 34:5-12. Another pretty frightening foretelling of the destruction of Edom, containing lines like "the Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood" "it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon the people I have doomed" "a great slaughter in the land of Edom" "the Lord has a day of vengeance." From the land of Edom "smoke shall go up forever" and "none shall pass through it forever and ever." "He shall stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plummet of chaos over its nobles," "all its princes shall be nothing."

I must say, I am becoming a bit frightened by all the prophecies of doom I keep getting! But when I look around at our nation and our leaders, I can see why God is telling us that a time of cleansing is necessary. We really are in a very evil place. Scientists are creating part human/part monkey embryoskilling infants born alive to harvest their livers; and scalping aborted fetuses and grafting the scalps onto rats. But instead of even talking about these abominations, we are throwing more taxpayer money at them, and diverting attention by celebrating the mutilation of children to satisfy their culturally inflamed discomfort in their bodies. It is so obvious that something has to give, and is going to, soon. So I'm pretty sure that is why God keeps giving me these prophecies - we are Edom here - we are about to fall and be desolate for generations.

We have to read these prophecies the right way, though. Destruction comes in many forms, and talk of fire and brimstone and a sword only sated with blood are good ways to get the imagery of destruction across, but nations can be utterly destroyed in ways that don't look like what is being described here. I see signs all around me that we are being destroyed in such ways. God loves his creation, he does not want to destroy it, he is a creative force. The destruction here is the result of the sin of Edom - it is what the devil accomplishes by leading us astray. When we experience it, we then ask God how he could have allowed or wanted this, but we don't realize that he did not and he was trying to warn us through the prophets and through signs all around us forever!

At some point, we get what we have been choosing - and when we are choosing evil (and we are) we suffer its consequences, like Edom. We then exist in a state of confusion and chaos, these are the calling cards of evil. Do we not see that we are already in such a state?
