Hebrews 1:1-2 "In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world."
The prophets of the Old Testament spoke God's word to the people, but they never had the full story. Jesus is the perfection of God speaking to us. All was created through Him and for Him, He is the Word made flesh, He understands all because He is all, and He became human to speak God's word to us.
Yet Jesus Himself said "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth" (John 16:12-13). So God speaks to us now through the Holy Spirit, whose speaking continues to come "in many and various ways". So many of my posts, including just yesterday's, are about perceiving God's messages in all aspects of our lives. God is always speaking to us, that is why prayer is always a response. When we pray frequently, we become more and more attuned to His voice, and His messages become more clear. They are sometimes things like inner understanding, but other times they come through nature, daily events, other people, or the world around us, looked at through the eyes of wisdom the Holy Spirit has granted us. Now that the Word made flesh has spoken to us, anything we perceive as a message must be filtered through His word, in other words, we have to discern. Not everything we think we understand is coming from God, the devil knows how to mimic Him to our confused minds quite well. But with that word of warning, we should not forget that God is continuously speaking to us.
A priest friend recently sent me a long form interview with Father Ripperger. I have been watching it in pieces, and I texted him this morning to tell him how interesting it is and how family members seem to be listening in while I'm watching. He said he knows a lot of people are watching/listening, and I thought that makes sense, the world is so messed up, people are looking for answers and Father Ripperger has a lot of them! I also thought how, for all its many faults, social media can be a wonderful tool to spread God's message.
God is using all the "many and various" means of communication at hand to get to us, as He always does. The Father, the Son (heir to all things, including us), and the Holy Spirit, will always use all things for good, and any means necessary to speak to us, since our salvation is the ultimate goal.
