Job 24:18-20. Regarding "those who rebel against the light ... who do not stay in its paths," they will be swiftly carried away by the waters, their portion in this world will be cursed. Just as drought and heat snatch up the snow waters, so Sheol shall snatch up their souls. They will be forgotten in their towns, no one will remember their names. And so wickedness will be "broken like a tree."
I think this is teaching me to be patient, again. Despite much wickedness, many evildoers appear to be flourishing right now. But God sometimes allows me to see one or two of them fall, and to see that their portion is actually cursed. He does this to show me that my patience and perseverence in prayer are effective.
I have written before about how when Andrew Cuomo signed the New York law allowing abortion up to the moment of birth, to great praise and fanfare, I was sickened. But I gritted my teeth, and began praying for him every day. Then, as he was being so obviously wrongly lauded all through COVID, my dislike for him and for the fawning media just grew and grew. He already was killing babies, and being praised for it; now he was killing the elderly, and winning an Emmy for it! Why could people not see what was going on? It was so infuriating! I truly could not understand it, but I continued to swallow my outrage, and pray for Cuomo. Fast forward a year and, having resigned from his office in absolute disgrace a few months ago, he is now being criminally charged for a sex crime. (It's strange, but the wicked often fall for lesser crimes!)
I was never praying for Cuomo's downfall, I was praying for his conversion - for him to realize how wrong he was (that is why God tells us to pray for our enemies). But this is how their conversion and redemption happens - they have to hit bottom. I don't know if Cuomo has hit bottom, but God does. So I will continue praying for him and let God break his wickedness like a tree. Now I have turned my attention to Anthony Fauci (I wonder if I should send him notice? :)), another very wicked man being praised as a saving hero. There's so much evil that man has done that is not being reported (I truly believe that the reason he is so strict with virus control measures is because he feels guilty because he is responsible for the virus existing in the first place). But the evil of the dog torture that has recently come to light is one that, like Cuomo's sexual harassment, will resonate with the public. I believe that is the thing that will break Fauci's "tree of wickedness" and save us from his authoritarianism. So be it!
This is why I have to trust God - if it were up to me, I would have removed those two men from the world stage a long time ago. But by letting them reach the heights that they reached, their fall will be so much harder for them, and that will, hopefully, turn them back to God. When we pray for the salvation of our enemies as we should, God responds by bringing them to the point where they are willing to accept it. It is a strange thing, but the truth often is!
