1 Samuel 26:20 "Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of the Lord; for the king of Israel has come out to seek my life, like one who hunts a partridge in the mountains."
Our primary concern in life should echo David's concern here: that our blood does not fall to the earth away from the presence of the Lord. We do not all have Saul chasing us down, seeking to kill us, but we are all being pursued relentlessly. If it doesn't feel that way, it is only because we have ceded a bit too much ground to our pursuer, and he feels enough in control for now. Make an effort to become more holy and closer to God, and see what starts to happen. Then you will know that you are being pursued, and not by someone with good intentions for you.
But God is pursuing us, too, with only the best of intentions. And God will protect us as we try to flee our pursuer, just as He did David. God wants us with Him when we pass from this world. That is why we should share David's concern that our blood not fall to the earth, our death not come for us, away from the presence of the Lord.
