Proverbs 25:13 "Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, he refreshes the spirit of his masters."
Waking up at 6 am to a 14° morning with over a foot of snow outside that’s not going anywhere anytime soon, I have pretty much had it with the cold of snow right now! I can imagine, though, during the heat and labor of the harvest, how refreshing it would be to experience a sudden snowfall. The proverb likens this to a faithful messenger. Such a messenger’s reliability, loyalty, and faithfulness are being praised as being as refreshing as an unexpected cooling snowfall.
Many can be faithful in small matters, but when asked undertake a more burdensome or lengthy task, they balk. Others may be like the son from the parable of the two sons who says he will do it, and then does not. Others will undertake the task with the intention of seeing it through, but become tired, distracted, or tempted away from it.
A faithful person will stay faithful, even as delivering message after message, going the distance, not trailing nor veering off from the assigned task. Finding someone like that in life really is as refreshing as a sudden snow squall on a hot day of labor. You find yourself surprised, pleased, comforted, and very appreciative. It is a blessing to others to be refreshingly reliable!
