Luke 17:26-27 "As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of man. They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all."
I think this is happening now: we eat, we drink, we marry, but societally we are woefully far from God and unprepared for what could happen. This was definitely happening in my life until my own floods came.
We tend to get complacent. We enjoy the good things of life, the food, the drink, our marriages and relationships, but we start thinking these things are what life is about, and we drift. We fail to keep ourselves ready for the changes life can bring, changes that often call us to step up in ways for which we won't be prepared if we haven't stayed alert.
Yesterday a friend sent me this post about Ian Fleming's routine as he wrote the James Bond novels. At first, it sounded wonderful, just what I thought I'd like my life to be like. But as I thought about it, I realized that was the old me. After my personal struggles and the worldly trials of the last several years, I have different priorities. I have realized that everything and anything can change in an instant, the only permanent thing is God, and He has a blissful eternal life planned for me.
When I keep God as my focus, I can still enjoy life's pleasures, but I don't fret when they're not available. I don't drift, I am ready when the floods come, or even when the Son of Man returns.
