Genesis 17:9 "And God said to Abraham, 'As for you, you shall keep my covenant for you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.'"
Although our faith is Catholic, universal, meant to include everyone, it really is this personal. "As for you" God says to Abraham, the single person He chose to get the ball rolling. Obviously, God's intention was to have all of Abraham's descendants, who are to be as numerous as the stars of the sky, included in His family, all keeping His covenant. But at this moment, for now, it is just Abraham, and as for him, he is to keep God's covenant, something that would appear quite alien to the rest Abraham's world.
As we more and more become "strangers in a strange land", it is good to remember how personal our faith is. Even if no one else in the world, including our family and friend groups, is staying true to the covenant, we must. That is the only way to preserve it so that it will be available to all our descendants throughout their generations.
