Hosea 4:7-10. (Another repeat!) The more God's people increased, the more they sinned against Him. So He says He will change their glory into shame. "They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity." So God will punish them for their ways. They shall eat but not be satisfied, play the harlot but not multiply "because they have forsaken the Lord to cherish harlotry."
It is true that there is nothing new under the sun - obviously people often get themselves and their societies into states where they are pursuing sin most greedily. The sin, of course, leaves them feeling empty and unsatisfied, so they pursue it more and more voraciously. It is a vicious cycle.
But in the past when God allowed His people to play the harlot but not multiply, I always got the impression that people were sad or upset about not being able to have children. This was something meant to wake them up and bring them back to virtue. Nowadays, though, I get the feeling that we as a society do not want to multiply. We are perfectly happy, indeed, celebratory, with relationships and a hookup culture that are not intended to (and in some cases, never could) produce progeny, like gay sex and marriage, contraception, abortion, etc.
So, while I am certain God is allowing us to play the harlot but not multiply, I don't see us feeling the effect of it yet, which means it is going to get worse and hurt a lot more when we do. Once the full effect of the vaccines on fertility, the contraception in the water supply, the debauchery to which we are exposing our children, thus short-circuiting their natural impulses, and all our myriad other sins become known, it may be too late to do anything about it. We will see!
