Numbers 36:8. "And every daughter who possesses and inheritance in any tribe of the people of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, so that everyone of the people of Israel may possess the inheritance of his fathers."
The inheritances that God gave to each tribe of Israel are so important to Him! I wrote about this before in The Only Unity God Wants Is Unity In Him. When faced with a dilemma regarding such a case, Moses chose to enforce this rule, even though it was difficult.
In our modern society, we tend to prioritize our definition of "love" over everything (and the "love" we are prioritizing is often not real love at all, it is not about willing the good of the other). Passages like this show us that eros - romantic love - is not the be-all and end-all of everything. God is love, and He wants us to love, but the highest form of love - agape - is what we should strive for.
Clearly, God prioritized stable tribes and inheritances over the romantic love one tribe member may feel for another. This should be a lesson to us that we always must discern our decisions and consult God's rules, even when feeling the deepest of emotions. Feelings are not the best guide for proper action.
