Psalm 76:1-6. God is known in Judah, his abode is established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. There He broke all the arrows and weapons of war and stripped the stout-hearted of their spoil, as they sank into sleep. God is more majestic than the mountains, He is glorious! The men of war are unable to use their hands in His land. At God's rebuke, the horse and rider lay stunned.

There is a time for war, as Ecclesiastes tells us, and as we see throughout the Old Testament, God often tells his people to prepare for or to wage war. But in God's land, in his true home, his holy place and his abode, there is no need for war. There, the stout-hearted will sink into sleep. There, the horse and rider will lay stunned.

It is almost like passing through a barrier into another world, one where clarity and the truth of love reign, and no one admitted will ever have to have need to, or even want to, wage war again. Our God is a God of peace. His abode is a place of peace. He does not want us to be in this fallen state where war is sometimes necessary. He wants to call us back to his heavenly home where the weapons of war will be broken and unnecessary, and warriors will give themselves over to other things.
