1 Kings 16:16 "[A]nd the troops who were encamped heard it [and] said 'Zimri has conspired, and he has killed the king'; therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp."
These are good troops. They know they are serving Israel, and its rightful king. As soon as they hear Zimri has killed the king and has taken power, they and all of Israel choose a new king and march against Zimri under the leadership of Omri. (1 Kings 16:17) Zimri's reign only lasted seven days (1 Kings 16:15) because the people and the army understood the proper transfer of power and refused to serve a corrupt leader who had wrongfully taken the throne.
We are the Church militant, we are the army on the ground right now. We should remember which King we serve, and be willing to march against any corrupt power that tries to place itself in His stead.
